I am a Cuban-born visual artist and musician based in Boston, MA. Although trained in traditional techniques of working from observation, my work has evolved to reflect my studies in graphic design, architectural rendering, geometric abstraction, and music.
The Archiometries series signals an important evolution in my work from the architecturally inspired but more abstract paintings of the last fifteen years. This series makes more specific reference to works by Modern and Postmodern architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Tadao Ando, Sir Norman Foster, Mario Romañach, and Zaha Hadid. I use source images of existing exterior or interior spaces, distilling and editing the images in an improvised manner to bring out their essential rhythms and underlying geometries while exploring and interpreting both the formal and conceptual aspects of my subjects.
I currently teach Fine Arts at Lesley University College of Art & Design and at Mass College of Art & Design. In addition to my work as a visual artist, I perform as a jazz drummer and percussionist throughout the Boston area with various groups including my trio Detour Ahead.
